Of the September term of the Saline County Circuit Court in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty five.  The Grand Jurors chosen selected and sworn in and for the County of Saline in the name and by the authority of the People of the State of Illinois, upon their oaths present; that Dock Jones whose Christian name other than "Dock" to the grand Jurors is unknown late of said County on the first day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight four at and within the said county of Saline in the State of Illinois, aforesaid in and upon one EDWARD JOHNSON  in the Peace of the said People then and there being feloniously unlawfully willfully and of his malice aforethought did then and there make an assault and he the said Dock Jones with a certain knife which he the said Dock Jones then and there in his right hand upon the belly of him the said Edward johnson then and there feloniously unlawfully and willfully and of his malice aforethought did strike and penetrate giving the said Edward Johnson then and there with the knife aforesaid by the stroke aforesaid in manner aforesaid in and upon the belly if him the said Edward Johnson one mortal wound of the depth of six and of the breadth of four inches of which said mortal wound he the said Edward Johnson did languish and languishing did live one hour and which first day of September in the year last aforesaid of the mortal wound aforesaid he the said Edward Johnson then and there died and so the Grand Jurors aforesaid do say that the said Dock Jones him the said Edward Johnson in the manner and form aforesaid, feloniously willfully and of his malice aforethought did kill and murder contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided against the peace and dignity of the said People of the State of Illinois.
